Robert was named General Counsel of Lendmark Financial Services, LLC in October, 2013 after having served in the same role from July, 2000 – August, 2008.

Robert brings 29 years of financial services industry experience to Lendmark. He manages the internal risk management function of the organization consisting of the Legal Department, Compliance Department, Enterprise Risk Management Department and Vendor Risk Management Department. As the senior legal executive for Lendmark, Robert has responsibility for reviewing all material contracts entered into by the company, managing significant litigation matters, and providing state and federal law compliance guidance.

Robert and his team implement Lendmark’s overall risk management strategy by conducting extensive risk evaluation, testing, and monitoring to ensure that risk is appropriately mitigated in accordance with the risk appetite of the company.   He provides leadership and direction to a dedicated staff of professionals who support the operations of the company by working with the various departments within the company to develop processes and controls to manage risk. He also regularly consults with senior management on a broad range of legal issues to ensure consistency of approach in handling such matters and to advance the risk mitigation culture of the company.

Robert engages external counsel when he deems it appropriate to assist with the following types of matters: mergers and acquisitions, state and federal law compliance, development of loan documentation, defensive litigation, and implementing new funding strategies.. He selects external counsel who have demonstrated a proficiency in handling the specific areas for which he seeks their assistance and who have a commitment to providing exceptional service to their clients.

Prior to re-joining Lendmark, Robert held the position of Associate General Counsel for BB&T.

He earned his J.D. from Emory University School of Law and a B.A. Degree from the University of Florida.
